Yoko Kawabata

Event
2026
Materials
yarn trims, remnants, clothes with holes

Yoko brings traditional Japanese textile techniques into a contemporary kimono jacket. The piece combines takaraito – tying yarn trims into longer knotted yarn – with sakiori weaving, a technique based on tearing cloth into strips and weaving it again. Odd-shaped remnants, yarn trimmings and favourite clothes with holes are transformed into a handwoven textile rather than discarded.
