Gracie Schumacher

Gracie began this piece in a textile surface-transformation class, with the challenge being to find new ways to reshape and rework fabric. Years of sewing offcuts became an appliqué collage alongside thrifted textiles, secondhand garments, old beads and buttons, a garage sale fabric find and a secondhand bedsheet. Each removable panel carries traces of a previous life while also allowing the dress to be washed and cared for.
